Neurotoxin Injectables · Pickering, ON
Masseter / Jaw Slimming in Pickering, ON
Neurotoxin injections into the masseter muscle can help slim an over-developed jawline, reduce the discomfort of teeth grinding and jaw clenching, and soften a square facial profile — all without surgery. A treatment that addresses both aesthetics and function.
The Treatment
What Masseter Reduction Can Help With
The masseter is one of the primary chewing muscles, sitting along the angle of the jaw. When overdeveloped — from genetics, teeth grinding (bruxism), or habitual clenching — it can create a wide, square lower face. Neurotoxin reduces muscle bulk over time and relaxes its contractile force.
What it may help address
- A prominent, square, or wide lower jaw driven by muscle mass — not bone
- Bruxism (teeth grinding) causing jaw soreness or headaches
- Jaw clenching and associated TMJ-related tension
- Desire for a softer, more oval or heart-shaped facial profile
- Facial asymmetry related to uneven masseter development
Good candidates
- Those with a visibly prominent masseter muscle (not primarily bone-driven jawline)
- Clients experiencing jaw clenching, bruxism, or related discomfort
- Adults in good general health with realistic expectations
- Not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- No active infection at the treatment site
- Aware that full slimming results appear gradually over 4–8 weeks
The Science
Muscle Reduction, Not Bone
Neurotoxin is injected directly into the belly of the masseter muscle, reducing its ability to contract with full force. Over several weeks, the reduced workload causes the muscle to gradually atrophy (shrink in bulk) — resulting in a softer jawline silhouette. This is a gradual process, with the most visible slimming occurring between 4–8 weeks post-treatment.
For clients with bruxism or jaw clenching, the reduced muscle force may also help lessen the intensity of grinding and clenching — which can contribute to jaw pain, headaches, and tooth wear. This is not a cure for TMJ disorder, but many clients report noticeable functional improvement alongside the cosmetic benefit.
Correct masseter placement requires locating the muscle accurately — avoiding the parotid gland and nearby structures. Mia performs a palpation assessment during consultation to map the muscle before injection. Results may vary by individual and typically require repeat treatment every 4–6 months to maintain slimming.
Your Experience
What to Expect
Assessment & Consultation
Mia palpates the masseter at rest and during clenching to assess muscle size, symmetry, and whether your jawline width is driven by muscle or bone. Treatment is only recommended where muscle reduction can realistically make a visible difference.
The Treatment
A small number of injections into each masseter, typically taking 15–20 minutes. The masseter is a large muscle so higher doses are needed than for expression lines — typically 20–30 units per side. Mild pressure or pinching is common; most clients find it very tolerable.
Results & Timeline
Functional improvement (reduced clenching force) may be noticed within 1–2 weeks. Visible jaw slimming typically appears gradually over 4–8 weeks as the muscle atrophies. Results may last 4–6 months before re-treatment is needed. Results may vary.
Your Injector
Assessment Before Injection. Always.
The masseter sits adjacent to important anatomical structures including the parotid gland and facial nerve branches. Accurate injection requires physically locating the muscle before placing product — not simply guessing based on surface landmarks.
Mia's nursing background means she approaches every treatment with clinical discipline: palpation, assessment, consent — then injection. She's also realistic about what this treatment can and can't do, and won't recommend it where bone, not muscle, is the primary driver of jawline width.

Common Questions
Masseter / Jaw Slimming FAQ
-
Yes. The masseter is one of several muscles involved in chewing, and reducing its strength does not prevent normal eating. Some clients notice mild tenderness or fatigue in the jaw when chewing firm foods in the first week or two — this resolves as the muscle adapts. Chewing function is not compromised at the doses used for aesthetic or functional reduction.
-
Unlike expression line treatment where results are visible within days, jaw slimming is gradual. Functional changes (reduced clenching force) may be noticed within 1–2 weeks. Visible jaw narrowing typically begins to appear at 4–6 weeks and continues improving through 8 weeks as the muscle progressively atrophies from reduced use. Results may vary.
-
Many clients with bruxism report reduced jaw tension and morning soreness after masseter neurotoxin treatment. By reducing the contractile force of the masseter, nighttime grinding may be less forceful and less damaging. However, this is not a cure for bruxism or TMJ disorder — a night guard and assessment by a dentist or specialist remains the primary management approach. Masseter neurotoxin may be a helpful adjunct. Results may vary.
-
Most clients repeat masseter treatment every 4–6 months to maintain slimming. Over successive treatments, some clients find the muscle stays reduced longer as it progressively adapts to lower workload — allowing treatment intervals to gradually extend. Results vary by individual muscle mass and clenching habits.
